We have discussed before that discerning truth from overt false teaching is not really the problem. The problem is discerning truth from almost truth. Statements that sound good, sprinkled with a little scripture out of context but are not consistent with the orthodox understanding of the Bible throughout history.
That is why a Bible believing and teaching church is so important. Feel good stories with Biblical anecdotes are worthless. The scripture is the story not the other way around. Read the passage, explain it in context and apply the Biblical teaching / concept / doctrine / theology to our lives as New Testament believers.
