Communication and excommunication….

In the news today

First this:

After much prayer and careful deliberation, and having fully communicated to Doug Phillips his Biblical responsibilities and our concerns, regarding sins, arising out of his public confession, there has not been a response we deem satisfactory. Therefore, the Elders of Boerne Christian Assembly have moved to excommunicate Doug Phillips from the Body of Christ. In doing so, we have sought in good faith to follow diligently the process set forth by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 18:15-17.

Then this:

From Thabiti Anyabwile, Pastor FBC, Jamaica:  Just had the joyful privilege of seeing a man excommunicated over a year ago be restored and affirmed by the body of Christ. Praise God!

Prime examples of following the Word and trusting that the Lord knows what he is doing.

Biblical excommunication has the following purposes:

  1. To glorify Christ
  2. To preserve the purity of the Church
  3. The restoration of those involved
  4. To act as a warning to other believers
  5. To avoid the judgment of God
