A man was not qualified to serve as an OT prophet unless he received God’s message the way that Jeremiah received it: directly from God himself.
A man is not qualified to serve as a NT believer unless he has received and believed the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as given by God himself. Where does He speak this gospel to us now?
Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, (2) but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
2 Peter 1:19 and we possess as more reliable the prophetic word, to which you do well if you pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,
Romans 10:13-15 For “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” (14) How then will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him about whom they have not heard? And how will they hear about him without one who preaches to them? (15) And how will they preach, unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How timely are the feet of those who bring good news of good things.”
You can’t be a prophet in the OT sense, but you can be a NT believer that listens to God speak through the prophetic word, the Bible; pay attention to it; then tell others the good news. How cool is that?
